Global Strategic Partners

Shell Foundation

The Shell Foundation is the founding sponsor of EMBARQ.  In May 2002 it awarded WRI a five-year grant of US$3.75 million, with an additional commitment of $3.75 million in matching funds, to serve as EMBARQ’s “core” funding.

The Shell Foundation (a UK registered charity funded by the Royal Dutch/Shell Group of Companies) believes that the international business community can and should play a responsible and active part in creating an equitable, healthy and sustainable world. Since 2000, it has tackled long-term social and environmental issues in which the energy industry has a particular role and responsibility. Its goal is to create strategic programs that improve and empower local communities, and then share that expertise and experience across the developing world.

Caterpillar Foundation

In April of 2006, the Caterpillar Foundation joined the Shell Foundation to create EMBARQ's group of Global Strategic Partners.  With a grant of $7.5 million, the Caterpillar Foundation will substantially contribute to the development of EMBARQ's sustainable transport projects in Latin American cities, Istanbul, and other Asian cities.

For more than 80 years, Caterpillar Inc. has been making progress possible and driving positive and sustainable change on every continent.  With 2005 sales and revenues of  $36.339 billion, Caterpillar is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines and industrial gas turbines. The company is also a technology leader in construction, transportation, mining, forestry, energy, logistics, remanufacturing, financing and electric power generation.  More information is available at http://www.cat.com.
